Meet Sammy! Sammy Daboussi was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and moved to Los Angeles, California at age two. When he was 11 years old, he moved to Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. where he completed middle and high school before relocating to the U.S. to attend college in Los Angeles. Sammy attended USC, where he received a degree in Business Administration before earning his Juris Doctorate at UCLA.
Growing up Sammy’s biggest passion was playing sports, especially soccer. He continues to live an active lifestyle, hiking, playing soccer, and spending his free time at the gym. He also loves traveling and has been to over 30 countries! Sammy was hired at BWB&O as a post-bar law clerk and is currently a senior associate. He loves to show up to the office and enjoys interacting with the amazing members of BWB&O.
Q: How did your experience as a BWB&O law clerk prepare you for your associate attorney position at the firm?
A: Clerking at BWB&O allowed me to hit the ground running when I became an associate attorney. Learning all the ins and outs of being an attorney at BWB&O, without the pressure of being an attorney, helped me develop the knowledge and skills I needed once I took on my own caseload.
Q: What accomplishments are you most proud of?
A: The first years as an attorney are always filled with a list of accomplishments. Your first deposition, your first hearing, your first motion, and I am proud of all of them. I believe, however, that I am most proud of my current role as a supervising attorney, helping to guide and grow the next generation of BWB&O attorneys. The satisfaction of seeing the people I supervise thrive is one of the greatest feelings.
Q: What advice do you have for anyone struggling to find a work-life balance?
A: I think the most important thing is to remember that sometimes taking a break from work will lead to a breakthrough with your work. Our job is filled with deadlines and client needs which sometimes feel overwhelming, but forcing yourself to take some time off, I believe, will lead to better work product and better results.
Q: You mentioned that you’ve traveled to 30 countries, that’s impressive! Which country is your favorite, and why?
A: This is a tough one. I’ve loved so many of the places I’ve visited, and have gotten to experience so many different cultures, foods, and people that there really is no favorite. They’ve all been unique and special in their own way. However, if I had to choose, one of my favorite trips was to Sri Lanka with my entire family, including my grandmother. The country had so much natural beauty that I was not expecting. Their tea is also some of the best I’ve ever had (we brought back a full suitcase). Getting to experience it all with my family definitely makes this one of the best countries I’ve visited.
A special thank you to Sammy for sharing his experience with us!
