Introducing Aliya! Aliya Ramos was born and raised in Vallejo, CA, and comes from a proud family of immigrants. Her grandparents journeyed from Mexico and Nicaragua to California, instilling in her the values of hard work, discipline, and dedication. Characteristics that have followed her throughout her life and principles that continue to guide her today.
Aliya’s interest in the legal field began early, sparked by her love of reading and writing. As a child, she filled journals with short stories, often sharing them with her parents. Her love for writing and desire to help others led her to the legal field.
She later moved to San Francisco, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from San Francisco State University. After returning to Vallejo with her partner to be closer to her family, Aliya took a break from school to focus on raising her 7-year-old son. Following her journey with Bremer Whyte Brown & O’Meara, she decided to pursue law school part-time, supported by family, friends, and colleagues in the Walnut Creek Office. She is currently completing her second year as a Hybrid student at Lincoln Law School of Sacramento, with graduation expected in 2028.
Outside of work and school, Aliya enjoys catching a San Francisco Giants game with a famous crab sandwich in hand, cheering on her son from the sidelines at his football games, and hosting BBQs for friends and family. She also loves exploring new bakeries around the Bay Area, taking her son to the arcade, and spending quality time with loved ones.
Q&A
Q: How has BWB&O supported your journey in balancing work, law school, and a family?
A: BWB&O has played a meaningful role in helping me navigate the demands of work, law school, and family life. It has provided a level of structure and flexibility that allows me to stay committed to my academic goals while still being present for my family. Through a supportive supervisor and partners who value growth, I have been able to take time off for finals season. My fellow secretaries also pitch in and pick up tasks via the secretary pool when I am off. The associates are always willing to revisit concepts they once learned and explain them. BWB&O has also taught me to be intentional in how I spend my time and to stay focused on my long-term goal of becoming an attorney. While balancing these responsibilities is not always easy, BWB&O’s Walnut Creek office has provided me with the support and encouragement I need to succeed in law school.
Q: How would you describe the culture at the firm?
A: The Walnut Creek office is very supportive. We all come here to do a job, of course, but there is a sense of camaraderie between everyone. There has not been a time when I have been afraid to ask a question regarding an assignment or task. It is clear that the goal is to ensure employees are in a position to succeed.
Q: What keeps you motivated during demanding times, such as exams or busy work periods?
A: I always think about the example I am setting for my son. I believe it is important for children to see their parents working toward their dreams and goals. Even in trying times, you don’t give up and keep going.
Q: What is your go-to Bay Area spot or hidden gem?
A: For food, it has to be 3 Stars in Vallejo, CA, the best garlic wings! For dessert, Tarts De Feybesse in Oakland, CA, is delicious, and I love the aesthetic! If you are in the Bay Area, you have to check it out.
A special thank you to Aliya for being part of this spotlight and sharing her experience with us!
