Meet Genesis! Growing up by the water in Salinas, Puerto Rico, Genesis was raised with a deep appreciation for community and the importance of giving back. That sense of resilience was put to the test when Hurricane Maria struck during her college years, disrupting on-campus learning for more than a year and further shaping her dedication to helping others. In 2020, Genesis earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work.
As the COVID-19 pandemic made finding steady opportunities in social work challenging, Genesis continued to channel her passion for serving others through volunteer work while also working as a barista. Seeking new opportunities and broader career horizons, she moved to the mainland in late 2021 and joined a Florida law firm as a receptionist. She quickly earned a promotion to paralegal and discovered that the legal field was where she wanted to build her career.
Ready for a new adventure, Genesis and her fiancé relocated to Colorado in 2023—a move she considers one of the best decisions she has ever made.
Outside of work, Genesis enjoys reading a good book, going to the gym, and experimenting with recipes that bring a taste of Puerto Rico to the mountains. She and her fiancé also enjoy exploring local shops and adding to their growing collection of physical media, which includes everything from DVDs and Blu-rays to vintage video game consoles.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your role and working in the legal field? What sets Bremer Whyte apart from previous firms?
A: I think the level of professionalism here is unmatched. There is a culture of excellence where everyone gives their absolute best, which naturally raises the bar for the entire team. It’s incredibly motivating to work alongside people who hold themselves to such a high standard but remain open to questions and collaboration.
Q: What Puerto Rican dish do you like to make? Can you share a recipe you’ve created?
A: If I had to pick just one Puerto Rican dish, it would absolutely be Arroz con Gandules. It is my absolute favorite to cook! I’ve developed my own version, and the key is starting with a really vibrant, freshly blended sofrito and a flavorful base of sazón and achiote oil. It’s the ultimate comfort food.
Q: If you could spend a perfect day in Colorado, what would you do?
A: I would love to take a beautiful drive over to Breckenridge with my fiancé. We’d find a spot for coffee, wander around for a bit, and then pack up to head out to a campsite.
Q: Where are your favorite physical and online stores to shop for your collection?
A: I’m a big fan of thrifting for my collection, so right now I spend a lot of time digging through the shelves at Goodwill and Arc Thrift Store. But if I’m looking for something really special, I head straight to Twist & Shout here in Denver. Their movie selection is absolutely amazing.
