Meet Alana! Alana Johnson was born in Riverside, California, and raised in Pismo Beach, a small beach community in central California. Growing up, Alana’s biggest passion was playing soccer. Alana’s mom worked as a paralegal and legal secretary during her childhood and in their free time, they enjoyed watching shows such as Law and Order with one another, which sparked Alana’s interest in the legal field.
Alana moved to San Diego to attend Cal State San Marcos where she received a degree in Communications with a minor in Criminal Justice. She felt that helping others was very rewarding and that law was an impactful outlet to pursue. Post graduation, Alana was hired at BWB&O’s Encinitas office and began working as an administrative assistant. She has been with the firm for over two years and proudly shows up to the office with a smile every day, thanks to BWB&O’s incredible work environment and amazing team.
Q: How have you evolved since joining BWB&O’s Encinitas team?
A: Since working at Bremer Whyte, I have learned how to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Professionally, I’ve had the opportunity to expand my knowledge in the legal field through assignments and my peers which has fed my passion for knowledge. I have also gained confidence in my work product, professionalism, and connections.
Q: What accomplishments are you most proud of and why?
A: I am very proud of receiving my bachelor’s degree as I am one of the few in my family to pursue higher education. I was immersed on campus, as a member of a sorority where I held a leadership position, the club soccer team, and as an on-campus Intern. During my college years, I grew tremendously as an individual, further developing my values, morals, and strengths. Through it all I was able to serve as a role model for my younger siblings which is a great gift on its own.
Q: What techniques help you stay organized and productive?
A: I maintain organization by creating lists and prioritizing assignments based on importance and deadlines. Setting a schedule for my tasks is also very useful as it provides me a window to give my undivided attention to the task at hand. I’m constantly able to stay productive as I am always offering my services to attorneys, especially when my workload is light.
Q: How do you spend your free time?
A: When I am off the clock I can be found in the gym as I value my physical and mental health. I am also a typical southern Californian who spends time at the beach. I maintain my passion for soccer and play in a league on weekends.
A special thank you to Alana for sharing her experience with us!
