Meet BWB&O’s Highlight of the Month!

BWB&O is proud to introduce its employee highlight of the month, Barbara Burns! Barbara was born and raised in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and has three wonderful children.

After Barbara met her husband in 1990, an attorney friend of hers encouraged her to obtain a Paralegal Degree. Thereafter, Barbara graduated in the top 10 of her class from Phillips Junior College in 1995 with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science and Paralegal Studies.

Barbara worked as a sole practitioner for 10 years. She worked in family law, criminal law, personal injury, and appellate law. However, in 2005 she was hired by Peter C. Brown to work at Bremer Whyte Brown & O’Meara, LLP’s Las Vegas office, where she remained until 2014.

In 2018, after living in Las Vegas, Nevada for 36 years, Barbara and her husband relocated to Reno, where she returned to BWB&O and began working with Partner Karen M. Baytosh in the firm’s Reno Office. Barbara and her husband love Reno and are so happy that she made the move back to BWB&O!

Q: How has your experience at BWB&O helped you in your career development?

A: Working at BWB&O taught me that accepting a position as a Legal Secretary versus a Paralegal is still a well-respected career choice that I find challenging and rewarding.

Q: Who would you attribute your success to? Please explain.

A: My husband has been my greatest supporter. If it were up to him, I would have become an attorney!

Q:  What are some fun ways that you disconnect and recharge?

A: In my free time, I like to crochet and go fishing with my family.

A special thank you to Barbara for sharing her experience on her road to success!
