BWB&O represented the Defendants, owners and operators of apartment complexes, in a housing discrimination case. This case involved 13 Plaintiffs—5 adult parents and 8 minor children—all alleging that Defendants violated the Federal Fair Housing Act, the California Fair Employment and Housing Act, and the California Unruh Civil Rights Act by committing familial discrimination.
Throughout the life of the case, BWB&O’s argument on behalf of its clients was that certain claimed actions by the Defendants did not discriminate against the Plaintiffs, the discrimination was not the cause of the claimed injuries and/or the Plaintiffs were not injured.
After a 4 day jury trial, the jury deliberated a little less than 2 hours, and they came back with a unanimous jury verdict in favor of BWB&O’s clients, the Defendants.
