Meet Amaris! Prior to her career in law, Amaris attended college to be a pharmacist. While in school, she began working as a file clerk/court runner at a law firm, where she was first introduced to the legal field and it caught her interest.
Soon after, Amaris chose to change her studies and enrolled in a paralegal program at the Community College of Denver, where she received an Associate Degree in Applied Science and Paralegal Studies. After receiving her degree, Amaris was offered a Paralegal position where she gained a substantial amount of experience in many aspects of the law and was part of a trial team that successfully litigated multiple high-profile cases with multi-million dollar claims.
After 10 years at that firm, Amaris sought to expand to a larger law firm to gain more experience. That led her to BWB&O where she has now been for almost five years! Along with her paralegal duties such as overseeing all expert retention, she also handles office administration and is the head of the Denver support team.
Q: Did you receive support and encouragement when choosing to change career paths? Who was your biggest ally?
A: Yes, I received a lot of support from my family and former employer. They were supportive and allowed me to work part-time as I went to school, encouraging me along the way.
Q: How has BWB&O helped you in your career development?
A: BWB&O has been instrumental in my career development. I’ve gained experience in different aspects of the law and have also improved my leadership skills. I love being able to help people grow in their own career paths.
Q: What have been your most meaningful accomplishments so far?
A: There are many but helping grow the Denver office is definitely a big one. We are a great team and work well together. We are continuing to grow and get better every day.
Q: What methods do you use to stay motivated and focused?
A: For me, It isn’t too hard to stay motivated because there is always something new to learn. I always strive to be better than the day before.
Q: How do you manage your time effectively in order to have a healthy work/life balance? What are some fun ways that you disconnect and recharge?
A: This is always changing but I try to take breaks to rest my eyes or go for a short walk to get outside for a little bit, this helps me to recharge. Other fun things I love are being outside and going on hikes with my dog. I’m a big foodie so I love trying new restaurants, as well as traveling and experiencing different places.
A special thank you to Amaris for sharing her experience on her road to success.
